Explore the natural surrounds of Woody Island whilst taking in stunning views. There are three marked Woody Island walking trails that lead you to either the summit (via the Island Top Walk), Twiggy’s Landing or Skinny Dip Bay. With the degree of difficulty varying from easy to moderate, everyone can enjoy exploring the island by foot. Alternatively, take part in the Guided Bushwalk departing daily - all welcome!

GUIDED BUSH WALK
Duration: approx. 1.5 hour return (casual walk)
Enjoy the Island Top Walk with one of our knowledgeable guides and learn about the islands history, the Recherche Archipelago and view the flora & fauna unique to Woody Island. The walk leads to the summit and offers great views of the Archipelago and the opportunity to meet friendly resident skinks. All fitness levels are welcome to join, with plenty of time for photos and questions. Bring along a water bottle and enjoy the casual 1.5hr return walk.
SELF GUIDED 'ISLAND TOP' WALK TRAIL
Duration: allow yourself approx. 1 hour return
Walkers see spectacular views of the Recherche Archipelago. Good vantage points are found halfway to the summit from the viewing platform and at two large rock outcrops – keep an eye out for friendly skinks! Take note of the fence-line on the way back. It is 100 years old and was put up by the Dempster brothers (first settlers in Esperance) to keep sheep away from the deadly heart-shaped poison bush.
SELF GUIDED 'TWIGGY’S LANDING' TRAIL
Duration: allow yourself approx. 40 minutes return
Trail leads to Twiggy’s Landing, which has a unique history. A lookout overlooking the Mutton-Bird rookery is located here, so be careful not to step on their burrows. A leisurely walk can lead you around the eastern end of the island where sea birds nest and Cape Barren Geese may be seen. Do not walk near the water’s edge or on black or sloping rocks as these are very slippery and dangerous.
SELF GUIDED 'SKINNY DIP BAY' TRAIL
Duration: allow yourself approx. 40 minutes return
A trail from the campground leads over the hill to Skinny Dip Bay. This trail passes by the telephone tower and water tanks on the hill. The bay is small and rocky but very sheltered. You have a good chance of having the place all to yourselves.
